I am in the military and plan to retire in about 10 years. I am looking to buy some land back home (Alabama) to build a house on once I retire and (hopefully) pay the land off before I move back. What costs can I expect when I purchase land (only, no structures on it, etc)? With houses I know there are closing costs, etc. Is this the same with land? Besides ensuring that water and electricity is available, are there any other tips or things I should know?

i suggest you buy it now, on payments. by the time you are ready to
build, it will be paid for. check with zoning and environment.
